To practice art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it”
—Kurt Vonnegut
At Story Doctors, we believe in the deeper 'why' of story telling, helping you to hone in on your message through exceptional plotting, character development, and world building. If you feel like something isn't working with your story but can't put your finger on what, if you're tired of vague and unactionable feedback, and if you're looking for a high touchpoint editor with lots of one-on-one coaching, then you're in the right place.

ABOUT
Get structural editing and book coaching from an active literary agent and author.
Most writers can feel when something in their story isn't working, but can't see why. That's where I come in. I help fiction writers and memoirists identify exactly what's holding their manuscript back and show them how to elevate it to a level that's truly ready for readers, agents, or publication.
At Story Doctors, you get more than technical edits, you get story-level insight shaped by my combined background as a literary agent, author, and former counsellor. I look at your manuscript holistically--it's emotional core, its structure, its characters, and the deeper 'why' driving your narrative--so you can revise with clarity and confidence while keeping the heart of your story in tact.
And the best part? You're not just getting a marked up manuscript back, you're getting one-on-one time with me via virtual chat with every edit to make sure you're confident with your next steps.

Kodie isn't afraid to hurt you in the best possible way. You might not enjoy it while it's happening, but a few years later you and your readers will be so glad she did.

Natasha Mihell (Literary Agent at The Rights Factory)
Kodie's understanding of craft is refined, which makes her edits feel seamless... More impressive even than this, however, is her ability to feel the story and elicit the elusive subtextual narrative: what lies beneath the text, what story is actually being told. In other words, Kodie has all the natural instincts of a true storyteller, and therefore a story champion.

Tom Hoeler (Editorial Director for Fiction and Special Projects at Random House Worlds)
Kodie (demonstrates) exceptional analytical skills, sharp editorial judgement, and a deep understanding of the traditional publishing landscape
